Photo Editor/Staff Photographer
The winning candidate will work with editors, designers, writers, fellow photographers and the great people of Nebraska to document the people, places, events, lifestyles, nature and culture of our great state through high quality photographs, videos and stories. This photographer will also do some writing and should be comfortable writing and with some skill. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Photograph stories, events and attractions throughout Nebraska • Coordinate projects with freelance photographers • Plan and schedule photo shoots • Maintain records/database of current and future photography projects • Edit photos for print and web • Catalog, index and archive photos and videos • May include creating and editing videos for web and social media • May include writing cutlines, stories and other text • May include performing color corrections and selecting photos for web slideshows • Contribute and edit photos for books and additional publications • Foster an environment of learning among staff and freelance contributors about the art and craft of magazine photography POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be skilled in photography • A college degree is recommended, with a preference given to candidates who have a healthy dose of practical experience and skill • Must possess strong visioning and conceptual skills, excellent communication skills and ability to meet deadlines, working months and years in advance • Background in journalism preferred, with preference given to candidates with magazine experience (writing and videography skills are a plus) • Must be willing to travel • Must show ability and experience in working with the public and in collaborating with editors, designers, fellow photographers, videographers, writers and other creative individuals in a mass communication environment (magazine, newspaper, web, etc.) • Must possess general working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs A working knowledge of the following software programs is important for this job (in order of importance): 1) Adobe Photoshop CS4 2) Photo Archiving Software HOURS Approximately 40 hours per week but could vary on a daily basis LOCATION Nebraska Life Magazine Publishing Headquarters in Norfolk, NE WAGES Salaried position with compensation based on skills and experience EMPLOYEE BENEFITS FOR FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES: • Dental and Medical Insurance • SIMPLE IRA Investment Plan • Vacation, Paid Holidays, Paid Sick • Paid Maternity Leave • Tuition Reimbursement • Employee Discounts • Working for a family-owned business that values its employees, local community and our larger community of Nebraska • Contributing and being part of an established and growing business • Living in a great community in the Midwest with low cost of living and high quality of life HOW TO APPLY: Email your resume, cover letter and samples of your photography, writing and/or videos (or links to samples).
