Photography Instructor
Photography Instructor (#2FHU20) The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Photography Instructor (Traditional/Chemical & Digital Methods) for Chabot College in Hayward, CA. The position reports directly to the Division Dean. Salary The initial salary placement range is $56,202 - $80,348/yr, depending on education and experience. Assignment The position is full-time, tenure track, Fall 2009 " Spring 2010 Academic Year. Employment will begin on August 13, 2009. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: *Master’s in photography, fine arts, or art OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in art history or humanities OR **the equivalent. *Degrees in Progress: To be conferred on or before July 1, 2009 will be considered, provided that the applicant also submits (1) an up-to-date transcript, (2) a photocopy of the degree requirement from the school catalog, and (3) proof of current course(s) and enrollment. Demonstrate sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities. Desirable Qualifications Experience teaching photography in a college setting; Expert, (mastery), level knowledge of and experience using state-of-the-art photography equipment; Expert, (mastery), level knowledge of and experience using state-of-the-art photography computer software applications on an Apple-Macintosh platform; Ability to design curriculum, programs, certificates, and degrees in photography; Ability to administer and manage a photography darkroom, including all associated darkroom equipment, chemicals, and supplies; Experience writing and providing training for darkroom safety protocols and SOPs; Ability to administer and manage a professional photography studio; Ability to advise, recruit, and retain students; Knowledge of and experience with commercial photography lighting equipment; Experience in fine art photography; Experience in commercial photography (e.g. in the areas of photojournalism, special events, portraiture, landscape, natural, etc.). Particular Job Characteristics Maintain and coordinate a successful photography program; Knowledge of and ability to teach methods appropriate to the college and/or adult level; Ability to show expert knowledge of the leading commercial photography equipment (both traditional/chemical and digital) and software applications; Ability to teach late afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays in support of program needs and class scheduling as assigned by school administration; Ability to teach at off-campus locations in support of program needs and class scheduling as assigned by school administration; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; Ability to supervise, organize, and maintain a photographic archive library for the Chabot College School of the Arts; Ability to administer and manage a professional photography studio; Ability to collegially, cooperatively, and supportively work and interface with faculty, staff, students, and administrators in a shared-governance organization.
