Commercial Photographers Join Forces

Non-Profit Resource for Commercial Photographers

Commercial shooters and photographic assistants have an ally with Commercial Photographers International (CPI), a non-profit association providing an array of member benefits and services. Commercial photographers work in a variety of fields including advertising, fine art, fashion, catalog, military, medical, photojournalism, and others.

Focused on the business needs of its members, CPI is only for commercial photographers and assistants and offers the protection of the established Indemnification Trust, affordable coverage comparable to professional liability insurance, and errors and omissions protection. In addition, members have access to specialized insurance programs - including health insurance options.

"CPI is an essential resource for commercial photographers," says Matthew Jordan Smith, a member of CPI's all-photographer Advisory Team.  "This is not a group that will make you wonder why you joined, because the benefits are what the organization is all about. CPI is designed for the busy photographer who knows time is money and wants answers on how to boost the bottom line."

Tools for Members

CPI has unique tools to make commercial photographers' lives easier and their businesses more profitable.  One of the most visible member services is www.myCPI.com, home of several resources for almost daily needs:

- Find-a-Freelance-Photographer and Find-a-Photographic-Assistant search engines, available to CPI members only;
- Find-a-Commercial-Photographer search engine, available to businesses and the general public, to steer prospects toward CPI members;
- CPI Studio Advisor™ - an online resource for info about contracts, zoning laws, taxes, pricing and negotiation, marketing and business planning, workflow and file management, handling employees and independent contractors; includes sample forms for contracts and model releases used by commercial photographers;
- online forums, where members can share their ideas, experiences, and solutions to the problems facing other commercial photographers.

Other member services include the Photographic Assistant program, which directs studios to trained and able assistants, and the toll-free Copyright Hotline.  CPI members have direct access to experts who work directly with Capital Hill legislators and government offices on resolving the most important copyright issues of today.  These specialists also show CPI members how to protect their copyrights, and assist members when their copyrights have been infringed, through access to copyright attorneys for no-cost consultations. Backed by a full-time professional staff, CPI is available toll-free at 866-886-4989.
